B'Day Surprises

  • Mood: Happy
  • Listening to: Hungarian Dance(trombone quartet)
  • Reading: B'day cards
  • Watching: the other laptops screen saver
  • Playing: with my new camera
  • Eating: A Chicken Wrap
  • Drinking: Water
So today is my birthday and I am officially Legal! I got some amazing gifts from my family and friends. And one of them was a new camera! YES! I can occupy myself with something again! And feed my picture taking addiction! This camera is an upgraded one from my old one(which is also getting fixed) I am uber happy! I also go a new mouthpiece. Which, being a band geek, I find awesome! It makes my low notes go RAWR!(Mmm that thing just sings!) I played with it from lunch 'til school let out. I skipped 4th(the teacher is to cool to care) to go back to band and practice some more. Then I also recieved my very first skirt, yes, my sweetheart was bold enough to get ME, Jessica Ashley, the biggest tomboy ever, the girl that doesn't even wear shorts, not even for the heat stroke band camp weather, a skirt! And the crazier thing was, I wore it! I happen to be attending a wedding and needed to dress up, so I wore a skirt for the first time, which was surprisingly nice once I got use to it. So I guess I'm officially a "woman" now, or that is what he said when he gave it to me. My initiation into "womanhood" However my favorite gifts were a couple of cards. From my friends, and from my sweetheart(His card was so wonderful) Because when people right me those funny random messages and I look back on it later I can still get a kick out of it. So that has been my B'day. I tested out my camera with the pets and uploaded them. Enjoy.
Ps. Sorry if it seems I was bragging. I'm just excited.

Oh yes, I played about 4 hours today and the only reason I stopped was because my chops were just gone! It was so much fun though. I want to keep practicing to bring out it's full potential!

Wow! Yeah, I know what that feels like, being somewhat new to the trumpet I have low endurance. But on the flute (Ocviously my main instrument) I have done the same as you and lost my top octaves after two hours of practicing. Lucky reeds, not having the endurance thing...

I know, crazy reed instruments. I've heard that it does take some chops to play flute.(Heh, An old band director also told me a funny joke that Trombone players and Flute players are better kissers.) I can't even make a noise come out of one. Trumpet I can buzz in but being a trombone player I don't know or like the buttons. Just my trusty slide. 7 positions!

Yeah, the flutes and brass jump on the reeds whenever they complain about embouchure issues.
There was this piece this year for our parade called El Capitan that is only three minutes long, but I always ran out of endurance for by the end no matter what no matter how much I practised for! Piccolo and piccolo trumpet are the worst though. Piccolo made me bleed when I tried to play it. And picc. trumpets can give people hernias from making all of your muscles so tight.
I like that video you did on the clarinet by the way!

I know my good friend plays clarinet and was always complaining about how her mouth was sore. She also tried to tell me clarinet was better than trombone. As you saw, I think otherwise ;)
Yeah there are certain songs that just kill you. For graduation we have to play the infamous "Pomp and circumstance" and it just wears my chops out. I don't know why, and we have to play through it eleventy billion times! So me and the second chair bone(he plays first part with me) made a system where we trade off octaves every 4 measures. That way it's just not high notes after high notes. We get to relax our mouth with some notes in the staff.

Ohhh... Pomp and Circumstance... *shudder* I remember last year when the band actually got lost and half of the band was in one place and the other was in another, somehow we managed to pull together. I was taking it an octave down last year because I was losing my second octave... *shudder*
